Dear Proxies,
Severian Lowell is expected to arrive around November 11, 2026, in the second half of Zenless Zone Zero Version 3.3. He is an S-Rank Wind Attack Agent whose damage centers on enhanced Basic Attacks.
This Severian build guide covers recommended W-Engines, Drive Discs, main stats and substats, skill priorities, Mindscape Cinema, team comps, and upgrade materials to help you plan his build before his banner arrives.
If you plan to pull Severian, his signature W-Engine, or additional Mindscapes, start setting aside Polychrome. If you need more pulls, you can top up Zenless Zone Zero through GamsGo to stock up on Monochrome ahead of his banner.

Beta information: This guide is based on Version 3.3.3 Beta skill information (Rev. 19110104). Build recommendations, skill effects, and English names for unreleased content may change before launch. M0 means no Mindscapes unlocked; M1, M2, and so on indicate the number unlocked.
ZZZ Severian Build at a Glance
Severian Best Stats
Severian's build should focus on CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, and ATK. His Core Passive provides additional CRIT DMG, while his signature W-Engine offers a substantial CRIT Rate boost. This allows players with his signature to invest more Drive Disc substats into CRIT DMG and ATK%.
Based on the current Version 3.3 beta, the following stats are estimated targets for a well-built M0 Severian. Your final numbers will depend on your W-Engine, Drive Discs, and team buffs.
For players using Severian's signature W-Engine, reaching 100% CRIT Rate is a realistic high-investment goal. Without his signature, focus on a balanced build rather than sacrificing too much CRIT DMG or ATK% to reach the same number.
Note: These are estimated endgame targets based on Version 3.3 beta data, not confirmed final-release requirements. CRIT DMG includes Severian's Core Passive, while the ATK estimate includes his Additional Ability but excludes external Support buffs. Final stat targets may change after further testing.
ZZZ Severian Best Teams
Start with a Severian + Stun + Support team. The Stun Agent builds Daze to create damage windows, the Support provides buffs, and Severian takes the field to build resources and spend them on enhanced Basic Attacks.
His Additional Ability requires another Support or Stun Agent, or an Agent from the same faction. You do not need a second Wind Agent to activate it. The three teams below have potential kit synergy, so choose around the Agents you already own. These are pre-release recommendations, not a confirmed damage ranking.
Severian + Dialyn + Astra Yao
Severian + Dialyn + Astra Yao | ||
|---|---|---|
![]() Severian Attack | ![]() Dialyn Stun | ![]() Astra Yao Support |
Why This Team WorksDialyn can give a teammate an extra Ultimate. Once she has 90 Positive Reviews, triggering the Chain Attack selection screen with a qualifying skill lets the incoming teammate use an Ultimate instead. Since Severian's Ultimate restores his resources, this could help him follow up with another enhanced Basic Attack. While in Idyllic Cadenza, Astra Yao can spend Energy to trigger Quick Assists and grant ATK to the incoming Agent. This gives Severian a way to return to the field with her buff active. | ||
How to play: Activate Astra Yao's Idyllic Cadenza, then use Dialyn to build Daze and Positive Reviews. Weave in Severian's attacks to build his own resources. Once Dialyn can convert a Chain Attack into an Ultimate, select Severian. If he is near his resource cap and the damage window allows it, spend those resources before using the Ultimate. | ||
When to choose it: This is worth trying if you already have Dialyn and Astra Yao. Whether Dialyn's extra Ultimate triggers Severian's full resource recovery still needs confirmation, so do not assume it guarantees a fixed number of extra enhanced Basic Attacks per rotation. | ||
Severian + Dialyn + Sunna
| Severian + Dialyn + Sunna | ||
|---|---|---|
![]() Severian Attack | ![]() Dialyn Stun | ![]() Sunna Support |
Why This Team WorksSunna provides ATK buffs and can increase the enemy's Stun DMG Multiplier through Ether Veil: Delusion Reprise and her Additional Ability. Severian's Attack specialty meets her teammate requirement, making her a promising partner for a team focused on dealing damage during Dialyn's stun windows. Severian's repeated attacks can also trigger Cat's Gaze for extra damage, with fewer attacks required against Stunned enemies. Cat's Gaze is not Basic Attack damage, however, so it does not benefit from Dawn's Bloom's Basic Attack DMG bonuses. | ||
How to play: Use Sunna's EX Special Attack: Bubblegum Barrage to activate her buffs, then follow with EX Special Attack: Special Photography Technique to deploy her Ether Veil. Build Daze with Dialyn before bringing in Severian to deal damage. Keep Sunna's Claw Sharpener stocked so she can continue reapplying Cat's Gaze from off-field. | ||
When to choose it: If you already have Sunna, you can build around her. Her contribution includes ATK buffs, a higher Stun DMG Multiplier, and Cat's Gaze damage. Comparing her ATK buff alone with Astra Yao's will not tell you which one performs better in this team. | ||
Severian + Norma + Astra Yao
| Severian + Norma + Astra Yao | ||
|---|---|---|
![]() Severian Attack | ![]() Norma Stun | ![]() Astra Yao Support |
Why This Team WorksNorma's turret builds Daze from off-field, giving Severian more time to attack and generate resources. He also meets Norma's Additional Ability requirement, enabling her team damage buff. Tech Divide further increases the enemy's Stun DMG Multiplier and extends the stun window. Once Preheated Chamber reaches 80%, Norma can use Basic Attack: Hat Trick to let the incoming teammate perform a Chain Attack. Since Severian's Chain Attack restores resources, this pairing could give him additional damage and resource recovery outside normal stun windows. | ||
How to play: Activate Astra Yao's Idyllic Cadenza, deploy Norma's turret with her EX Special Attack, then switch to Severian. Once Preheated Chamber reaches the required level, switch back to Norma, use Basic Attack: Hat Trick, and select Severian for the Chain Attack. Place Severian immediately before Norma in the squad order so he can receive the Quick Assist she triggers. | ||
When to choose it: Consider Norma if you want Severian to spend more time on-field. She provides off-field Daze and extra Chain Attacks, while Dialyn offers extra Ultimates. The better fit will depend on how smoothly the team rotates and how quickly it Stuns the enemy. | ||
If you already have Norma and Sunna, you can also try Severian + Norma + Sunna. Norma provides off-field Daze and extra Chain Attacks, while Sunna adds buffs and Cat's Gaze damage, leaving Severian plenty of field time. This lineup has appeared in beta gameplay and is another option to consider; you do not need to pull Astra Yao just to copy one of the teams above.
Starting ZZZ for Severian? A ZZZ account from GamsGo could give you a head start on your team. Look for an Agent roster that fits your plans, and factor in any saved Polychrome so you are ready to pull when his banner arrives.
Severian Rotation and Gameplay Tips
At M0, once you have at least 100 resource points, your team's buffs are active, and Severian's Ultimate is ready, you can use this sequence:
Enhanced Basic Attack → Ultimate → Enhanced Basic Attack
When to spend: If the enemy is about to be Stunned, save your resources for that damage window. If a stun is still some way off and you are near the cap, use an enhanced Basic Attack first to avoid wasting further gains.
Keep the follow-up in mind: Ultimate restores 100 resource points, enough for another enhanced Basic Attack. Chain Attack only restores 35, so check your current total before planning a follow-up. If the stun window or your buffs are about to end, prioritize landing your damage rather than forcing this exact sequence.
Severian's Skills and Resource Mechanics
Severian builds a character-specific resource through attacks and Perfect Dodges, then spends it on enhanced Basic Attacks. Current information puts his M0 cap at 120. Once you have at least 100, hold Basic Attack to spend 100 resource points and perform the enhanced attack. This resource is separate from the Energy used for EX Special Attacks.
Basic Attacks, Perfect Dodges, Chain Attacks, and Ultimates can generate resources. EX Special Attack grants a separate stackable effect used for his automatic dodge mechanic. Here is how each part of his kit fits together.
Skill | Effect and Gameplay Tips |
|---|---|
Basic Attack | Landing the fourth hit of his Basic Attack combo grants 20 resource points. Complete the combo when it is safe to do so to collect them. |
Enhanced Basic Attack | With at least 100 resource points, hold Basic Attack to activate it, spending 100 resource points. Using it at the M0 cap of 120 leaves you with 20. |
Perfect Dodge | Triggering a Perfect Dodge with Dodge grants 15 resource points, up to once every 0.5 seconds. Dodging without triggering a Perfect Dodge does not grant these resources. |
EX Special Attack | Tap to gain one automatic-dodge stack. Hold to keep spending Energy on wind blades; reaching the maximum Energy cost grants one additional stack. These stacks are tracked separately from the 100 resource points needed for an enhanced Basic Attack. |
Chain Attack | Restores 35 resource points at M0. Use it to help reach the enhanced Basic Attack threshold, keeping the 120-resource cap in mind. |
Ultimate | Restores 100 resource points, enough for one enhanced Basic Attack. Check your current total before using it to avoid wasting a large part of the recovery. |
For example, if you use Ultimate at M0 with 100 resource points already stored, only 20 of its 100-resource recovery will fit; the remaining 80 will be wasted. If the stun window and your buffs have enough time left, use an enhanced Basic Attack first, then refill with Ultimate. If they are about to expire, focus on landing your damage before they end instead of forcing a rotation with no resource waste.

Best Drive Discs for Severian
Based on current information, start with 4-Piece Dawn's Bloom + 2-Piece Woodpecker Electro. Dawn's Bloom boosts his enhanced Basic Attacks, while Woodpecker Electro adds CRIT Rate to help make use of the CRIT DMG from his Core Passive.
With Dawn's Bloom equipped, use an EX Special Attack or Ultimate to activate the extra Basic Attack DMG bonus before an enhanced Basic Attack. The buff lasts 25 seconds, so you do not need to trigger it again before every enhanced Basic Attack while it is active.
Drive Discs | Set Effects and Recommendations |
|---|---|
![]() 4-Piece Dawn's Bloom | The 2-piece bonus grants 15% Basic Attack DMG, and the 4-piece bonus adds another 20% Basic Attack DMG. When an Attack Agent uses an EX Special Attack or Ultimate, they gain a further 20% Basic Attack DMG for 25 seconds. Triggering it again refreshes the duration. The recommended starting 4-piece set. Activate the extra buff before your enhanced Basic Attack, then refresh it when needed rather than before every use. |
![]() 2-Piece Woodpecker Electro | Grants 8% CRIT Rate. Use this if your CRIT Rate is low to land more critical hits and make better use of Severian's CRIT DMG buff. |
![]() 2-Piece Puffer Electro | Grants 8% PEN Ratio. An alternative once you have enough CRIT Rate. Whether it beats Woodpecker Electro depends on your substats and team buffs. |
Severian Best W-Engines
Severian's signature W-Engine is designed around his Wind DMG and CRIT-focused build. If you already have The Brimstone, you can use it without immediately pulling for another S-Rank W-Engine. Starlight Engine is a practical budget option for players who want to complete his build with less investment.
Since Severian is a Wind Attack Agent, not every Attack W-Engine will work equally well for him. Other characters' signature W-Engines may offer useful stats, but he cannot fully benefit from passives tied to other attributes.
Other usable W-Engines: Cordis Germina and Marcato Desire are worth considering if you need additional CRIT Rate. Cordis Germina also provides a DEF Ignore effect that can benefit Severian's Basic Attack and Ultimate, although its Electric DMG bonus does not apply to him. Marcato Desire provides an ATK buff after an EX Special Attack or Chain Attack hits.
What about other characters' signature W-Engines? Some offer useful general stats, but their attribute-specific effects may not work for Severian. For example, Heartstring Nocturne's Fire RES Ignore cannot improve his Wind DMG. Compare the effects he can actually use rather than assuming that every S-Rank W-Engine is an upgrade.
Severian Skill Priority and Mindscape Cinema
Prioritize Core Skill, then focus on Basic Attack and Chain Attack. Core Skill improves his personal buffs, Basic Attack increases his enhanced attack damage, and the Chain Attack skill level affects both Chain Attack and Ultimate multipliers. Level Special Attack, Dodge, and Assist afterward, or move them up if your rotation uses them frequently.
M1 increases Basic Attack damage, expands his resource capacity, and improves his entry attack. M2 adds starting resources and PEN Ratio. These upgrades change whether he can open with an enhanced Basic Attack and how much room you have to store resources.
Mindscape Cinema | Key Effects |
|---|---|
M1 | Raises the resource cap to 150 and Chain Attack recovery to 50. Increases Basic Attack DMG by 70%. Entering through his Entry Skill replaces the attack with a Chain Attack without changing its entry type, up to once every 60 seconds. Using an enhanced Basic Attack also grants the effect needed to trigger his Entry Skill once. |
M2 | Restores 150 resource points when entering the battlefield. In Investigation Zone mode, this can trigger once every 180 seconds. Triggering a Perfect Dodge or using an enhanced Basic Attack grants 20% PEN Ratio for 25 seconds. |
M3 / M5 | Each increases the levels of Basic Attack, Dodge, Assist, Special Attack, and Chain Attack by 2. |
M4 | When his Additional Ability grants its ATK buff, Severian gains an extra 8% ATK. Using the Basic Attack follow-up triggered by his dodge mechanic, or the enhanced Basic Attack that costs 100 resource points, increases Decibel generation by 10% for 15 seconds. |
M6 | Raises the resource cap and starting resource recovery to 180. Adds a fixed 350% to the extra DMG Multiplier of the enhanced Basic Attack's final hit. After that hit, restores 5 resource points per second for 5 seconds; triggering it again refreshes the duration. |
Severian Upgrade Materials
Use the table below to plan Severian's Agent Promotion, skill, and Core Skill materials based on current information. You will also need to budget separately for Agent EXP and for upgrading his W-Engine and Drive Discs.
Is Severian Worth Pulling in ZZZ?
Consider Severian if you enjoy an on-field DPS who weaves Perfect Dodges into his attacks and spends resources on enhanced Basic Attacks. If you already have Dialyn or Norma built, along with a Support such as Astra Yao or Sunna, you will also have an easier time putting a team together.
If your current teams already clear the content you play and you are pulling mainly for a damage upgrade, wait for testing after his release. Early information can help you prepare, but it cannot yet establish how much he improves on your existing DPS options. Try his character trial when the banner opens to see whether his attack-and-dodge flow feels right for you.
Still deciding who to pull? Use our ZZZ tier list to help assess whether your roster needs another main DPS or stronger teammates, then check the ZZZ banner schedule to plan your Polychrome budget around the other Agents you want.
If you are saving for the Honkai: Star Rail crossover, read our ZZZ 3.4 × HSR collab preview before committing to Severian's signature W-Engine or extra Mindscapes. Details about Robin and the crossover banners are still unconfirmed, but you can leave some Polychrome in reserve if they are a priority for you.
Final Thoughts
Severian's build focuses on enhanced Basic Attack damage and a rotation that keeps resources coming in without wasting them. Start with 4-Piece Dawn's Bloom + 2-Piece Woodpecker Electro, balance CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, and ATK, and pair him with suitable Stun and Support teammates.
On a limited budget, focus on getting Severian and putting together a solid build first. Once you know which team you enjoy and how his rotation feels, weigh your current Attack W-Engines, his signature's actual damage gain, and your remaining Polychrome before investing in his signature or additional Mindscapes.
If you also play Genshin Impact or Wuthering Waves, plan around the characters you want across all three games. When you need more pulls, GamsGo's Genshin Impact top-ups and Wuthering Waves top-ups can help you prepare for upcoming character and weapon banners.
Severian Build FAQ
Should I Replace a Good ATK% Disc 5 with Wind DMG Bonus?
Not immediately. Keep your ATK% disc if it has strong substats, and compare it with a Wind DMG Bonus disc using the same team. A different main stat is not necessarily an upgrade if you lose too much CRIT Rate or CRIT DMG in the process.
Can I Build Severian Without His Signature W-Engine?
Yes. The Brimstone and Starlight Engine are alternatives to consider while you put his build together and balance his CRIT stats. They are not guaranteed to match his signature's damage, but they give you a starting point for learning his playstyle before investing further.
Can His Automatic Dodge Avoid Every Attack?
No. It depends on having the required stacks, whether Severian is already invulnerable, and the type of attack used by the enemy. You still need to recognize crowd-control attacks and other dangerous moves.
Why Do Severian Guides Show Different Numbers?
Beta updates have changed his resource cap, Mindscapes, and equipment effects. Check which revision a guide uses, then compare Mindscape levels, W-Engines, teammates, and combat buffs before treating its numbers as directly comparable.
