Yao Guang Build

HSR Yao Guang Role Overview

Yao Guang is a 5-star Physical character following the Path of The Elation in Honkai: Star Rail. She is an Elation support who increases allies’ Elation, enables additional Elation DMG through Great Boon, and provides powerful team buffs through her Skill, Ultimate, and Elation Skill.

Yao Guang’s Skill Decalight Unveils All deploys a Zone for 3 turns. While the Zone is active, all allies gain increased Elation based on Yao Guang’s own Elation.

Her Ultimate Hexagram of Feathered Fortune grants Punchline, triggers an extra Aha turn, and increases all allies’ All-Type RES PEN. Her Talent allows allies’ attacks to trigger additional Elation DMG while she holds Certified Banger.

Is Yao Guang Worth Pulling?

Yes, Yao Guang is worth pulling if you plan to build around Elation characters or want a strong support for DPS units that consume Skill Points. She is one of the best introductions to the Elation Path because her kit benefits both Elation and non-Elation teams.

Yao Guang is especially valuable for players who want to invest in future Elation units. Her Zone increases allies’ Elation, her Talent adds extra Elation DMG through Great Boon, and her Ultimate gives the whole team All-Type RES PEN during Aha’s extra turn.

Outside of pure Elation teams, Yao Guang also works well with Skill Point-heavy damage dealers such as Archer and Imbibitor Lunae. Since attacks that consume Skill Points can trigger Great Boon an additional time, she can add meaningful extra damage while still providing buffs and utility.

Yao Guang's Best Relics and Ornaments

Trailblazers, Yao Guang wants Relics that improve her SPD, CRIT stats, Energy Regen, and teamwide Elation support. Since Elation DMG can Critically Strike, SPD, CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, and Energy Regen are all very important for her build.

Her best setup is Diviner of Distant Reach with Lushaka, the Sunken Seas. This combination gives Yao Guang SPD, CRIT Rate, teamwide Elation buffs, Energy Regen, and extra ATK for the first-position DPS.

If you are still farming her best-in-slot set, you can use a transitional SPD setup such as Messenger Traversing Hackerspace or a 2-piece SPD combination. For Planar Ornaments, Sprightly Vonwacq is also a strong alternative if you want faster opening turns.

Rating & Notes

Diviner of Distant Reach (x4)
Diviner of Distant Reach
★★★★★ - Best Relic Set
Yao Guang's best-in-slot Relic set. The 2-piece effect increases SPD by 6%. Before battle, if her SPD reaches 120 / 160, the 4-piece effect increases her CRIT Rate by 10% / 18%. When she uses her first Elation Skill each battle, all allies gain 10% Elation. This perfectly matches her support role.
Warrior Goddess of Sun and Thunder (x2)
Warrior Goddess of Sun and Thunder
★★★★☆ - Good Transitional Option
A useful 2-piece SPD option while farming the full Diviner set. You can pair it with another 2-piece SPD set to help Yao Guang reach her key SPD goals more easily.
Lushaka, the Sunken Seas
Lushaka, the Sunken Seas
★★★★★ - Best Ornament
Yao Guang's best Planar Ornament for support builds. It increases Energy Regen by 5%, and when Yao Guang is not the first character in the lineup, it increases the first-position ally's ATK by 12%. This is excellent for DPS units such as Archer or Sparxie.
Sprightly Vonwacq
Sprightly Vonwacq
★★★★☆ - Best Opening-Turn Alternative
A strong alternative if you want Yao Guang to act earlier at the start of battle. It gives 5% Energy Regen, and when her SPD reaches 120 or higher, she is advanced forward by 40% when entering battle.

Relic Guide Summary: Pick Diviner of Distant Reach x4 if you want Yao Guang's strongest support setup. It improves her SPD, gives her important CRIT Rate at 120 / 160 SPD, and increases the whole team's Elation after her first Elation Skill each battle.

For Planar Ornaments, Lushaka, the Sunken Seas is the safest choice for most teams because it improves Yao Guang's Ultimate uptime and buffs the first-position DPS. If you want faster opening action, Sprightly Vonwacq is a comfortable alternative.

Yao Guang Relic Best Stats

For main stats, Trailblazers should focus on CRIT, SPD, survivability, and Energy Regen. Since Elation DMG does not scale with ATK or Elemental DMG Boost in the usual way, HP% or DEF% Planar Sphere is usually preferred to keep Yao Guang safer.

SlotMain StatNotes
BodyCRIT Rate / CRIT DMGUse CRIT Rate if you are not close to 100% CRIT in combat. Use CRIT DMG if your CRIT Rate is already high from Relics, her signature Light Cone, and Diviner's 4-piece effect.
FeetSPDSPD Boots are strongly recommended. Yao Guang wants at least 160 SPD for Diviner's second CRIT Rate tier, and higher SPD also improves her Elation through Amaze-In Grace.
Planar SphereHP% / DEF% / ATK%HP% or DEF% is recommended for a safer support build. ATK% can be used if you want a little more personal damage and already have enough survivability.
Link RopeEnergy RegenEnergy Regen Rope is the most stable choice. Yao Guang's Ultimate is expensive at 180 Energy, so smoother Ultimate uptime is very valuable.

Yao Guang Recommended Stat Values

For sub-stats, aim for SPD > CRIT Rate > CRIT DMG > HP% / DEF%. Yao Guang should prioritize SPD first, then build enough CRIT to make her Elation Skill and Great Boon damage more consistent.

StatRecommended Value
SPDAt least 160 SPD. Ideally around 200 SPD if using her signature Light Cone and aiming for stronger Elation scaling.
CRIT RateClose to 100% in combat. Maximum recommended pre-combat CRIT Rate is about 72% with her signature Light Cone, or 82% without it.
CRIT DMG90% or above before combat. Yao Guang gains 60% CRIT DMG from Poised and Sated, helping her reach around 150% in combat.
HP% / DEF%Build enough survivability through Sphere and sub-stats. HP% or DEF% Sphere is usually preferred because Elation DMG does not rely on Elemental DMG Boost.

Yao Guang's Best Light Cones

Trailblazers, Yao Guang's best Light Cones should improve her SPD, Energy cycle, Elation value, and teamwide CRIT support. Since her Ultimate costs 180 Energy, Energy Regeneration is especially important for keeping her rotation smooth.

When She Decided to See is Yao Guang's best Light Cone. It gives her the SPD and Energy Regen she needs, while also increasing the party's CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG whenever Yao Guang uses her Ultimate.

If you do not pull her signature Light Cone, Mushy Shroomy's Adventures is the best F2P alternative and can be obtained from the Memory of Chaos store. Today's Good Luck is also a strong 4-star option thanks to its CRIT Rate and stackable Elation buff.

Light Cone

Rating & Why We Recommend It

When She Decided to See

When She Decided to See

★★★★★ - Best
Yao Guang's signature and best Light Cone. It provides SPD, Energy Regeneration, and extra Energy at the start of each wave, helping her reach her first Ultimate quickly and stabilize long fights. It also increases the party's CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG whenever Yao Guang uses her Ultimate.
Mushy Shroomy's Adventures

Mushy Shroomy's Adventures

★★★★☆ - Best F2P Option
Yao Guang's best 4-star alternative. It increases her Elation and can make enemies take more Elation DMG after she uses her Elation Skill. At S5, it performs very well for players who skip her signature Light Cone.
Today's Good Luck

Today's Good Luck

★★★★☆ - Great
A strong 4-star Light Cone for Yao Guang. It gives CRIT Rate and a stackable Elation buff, helping her Great Boon and Elation Skill damage Crit more consistently.
Sneering

Sneering

★★★☆☆ - Good
A usable option if you lack stronger Light Cones. Sneering can increase Yao Guang's Elation during Aha's Instant, but it has less overall value than her signature or top 4-star alternatives.

Should You Pull for Yao Guang's Light Cone?

Yes, When She Decided to See is worth pulling if you want Yao Guang to feel smoother and more complete. Her Ultimate has an awkward 180 Energy cost, so the Energy Regen and fixed Energy recovery from her signature Light Cone can make a major difference in both short fights and long rotations.

With her signature Light Cone and an Energy Regen Rope, Yao Guang can reach her first Ultimate very quickly. The SPD bonus also helps her satisfy key SPD conditions more easily, including the 160 SPD requirement for the second CRIT Rate tier of Diviner of Distant Reach.

The Light Cone's biggest advantage is not just damage, but rotation stability. It improves Yao Guang's own cycle while giving the whole team CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG after her Ultimate, making it especially valuable for Elation teams and fast damage windows.

If you are saving Stellar Jade, you can skip it and use Mushy Shroomy's Adventures instead. It is the best F2P alternative and still gives Yao Guang strong Elation-related value. For higher investment, 0+1 is a strong starting point, while 1+1 is an excellent premium stopping point.

Yao Guang's Best Teams

Trailblazers, Yao Guang works best in teams that can take advantage of Elation DMG, frequent Skill Point consumption, and Aha's extra turn. Her Zone increases allies' Elation, while her Talent adds extra Great Boon damage after ally attacks.

Right now, Yao Guang is best played with Sparxie and Archer. She ideally wants Elation teammates, but she can also perform very well with Skill Point-heavy DPS characters because Great Boon triggers an additional time when an attack consumes Skill Points.

In most teams, Yao Guang provides Elation buffs, Punchline generation, All-Type RES PEN, Woe's Whisper DMG Taken increase, extra Skill Point recovery, and additional Elation DMG through Great Boon.

Yao Guang Elation Team

This is Yao Guang's best Elation-focused team. Silver Wolf Lv.999 and Sparxie both benefit heavily from Yao Guang's Elation buffs, Punchline support, and the extra Aha turn from her Ultimate.

Huohuo is the best sustain here because she provides ATK buffs and valuable Energy Restoration, helping Yao Guang reach her expensive Ultimate more consistently.

Yao Guang Generalist Skill Point Team

This team uses Yao Guang with Archer, one of her best non-Elation partners. Archer consumes Skill Points to deal damage, which allows Yao Guang's Talent to trigger Great Boon an additional time.

Yao Guang Trace Priority and Kit Analysis

Trailblazers, Yao Guang's kit revolves around Elation DMG, Punchline, Certified Banger, and Aha's extra turn. She is not only an Elation support, but also a character who lets non-Elation teammates deal extra Elation DMG through Great Boon.

Her main upgrade priority is Ultimate = Elation Skill = Skill = Talent > Basic ATK. Ultimate provides the extra Aha Instant and All-Type RES PEN, Skill improves her teamwide Elation buff, and Talent increases the extra Elation DMG triggered by ally attacks.

Yao Guang Talent Explained

Yao Guang's Talent, Behold Wherever Light Unfolds, is the core of her support value. While she holds Certified Banger, ally attacks trigger Great Boon, dealing extra Elation DMG to a random hit target.

If the ally attack consumes Skill Points, Great Boon triggers one additional time. This is why Yao Guang works so well with Sparxie, Archer, and other Skill Point-consuming DPS units.

Talent DetailGameplay Value
Great BoonAfter an ally attacks, Yao Guang triggers an extra instance of Elation DMG. Non-Elation allies can also deal meaningful Elation DMG through this effect.
Skill Point ConsumptionIf the attack consumes Skill Points, Great Boon triggers one more time. This doubles the extra damage frequency for many Skill-based DPS characters.
Elation CalculationIf the attacker's Elation is lower than Yao Guang's, Great Boon uses Yao Guang's Elation for calculation. This keeps non-Elation teammates from losing too much damage.
Not an AttackGreat Boon only deals damage and is not considered an attack, so it does not trigger attack-related effects.

Yao Guang Skill, Basic ATK, and Ultimate

Yao Guang's Skill Decalight Unveils All deploys a 3-turn Zone. While the Zone is active, all allies gain Elation based on Yao Guang's Elation. Both her Basic ATK and Skill generate 30 Energy and give her 3 Punchline.

Her Ultimate Hexagram of Feathered Fortune is the strongest part of her kit. It grants 5 Punchline, immediately gives Aha an extra turn using a fixed 20 Punchline value, and increases all allies' All-Type RES PEN for 3 turns.

This extra Aha turn does not consume the team's current Punchline, meaning Yao Guang effectively lets the entire party gain another Elation Skill window while also helping generate more Certified Banger value.

Yao Guang Elation Skill and Technique

Yao Guang's Elation Skill Let Thy Fortune Burst in Flames applies Woe's Whisper to all enemies for 3 turns, making them take 16% increased DMG. It then deals AoE Physical Elation DMG followed by 5 random bounce hits.

Her Technique automatically triggers her Skill once at the start of the next battle without consuming Skill Points. This lets Yao Guang open with her Zone active immediately.

Yao Guang Bonus Abilities

Yao Guang's Bonus Abilities are all high priority. They increase her Elation from SPD, improve her CRIT DMG and Skill Point economy, and extend Certified Banger duration.

Bonus AbilityWhy It Matters
Amaze-In Grace

Amaze-In Grace

When Yao Guang's SPD is 120 or higher, she gains 30% Elation. For every 1 SPD above 120, she gains another 1% Elation, up to 200 excess SPD. This makes SPD her most important stat.
Poised and Sated

Poised and Sated

Increases Yao Guang's CRIT DMG by 60%. After using Elation Skill, she recovers 1 Skill Point for the team, which is very useful for Archer and Sparxie teams.
Felicity Ensemble

Felicity Ensemble

When Yao Guang gains Certified Banger, its duration increases by 1 turn. This helps her stack and preserve Certified Banger better than most Elation units.

Yao Guang Gameplay Guide

Use Yao Guang's Technique before battle whenever possible. This lets her automatically deploy her Zone at battle start without spending Skill Points.

During combat, maintain her Zone with Skill, then use Basic ATK when Skill Points are tight. Both Basic ATK and Skill regenerate 30 Energy and grant 3 Punchline, so Yao Guang can stay SP-friendly while building toward her Ultimate.

Her Ultimate should usually be used during or shortly after your DPS's turn. Certified Banger converted from Punchline normally has limited duration, so timing her Ultimate well helps preserve more value for your carry's following actions.

In Elation teams, Yao Guang accelerates Aha Instant damage and Certified Banger stacking. In Skill Point teams, she adds extra Great Boon damage whenever the DPS spends Skill Points.

Gameplay GoalRecommended Focus
Opening SetupUse Technique before battle to start with Yao Guang's Zone active.
Main RotationMaintain Zone, use Basic ATK when conserving SP, and build Punchline through Basic ATK or Skill.
Ultimate TimingUse Ultimate around your DPS's action window to maximize Certified Banger duration and Aha Instant value.
Best PartnersSparxie, Archer, and other Elation or Skill Point-consuming DPS characters.

For most players, E1 vs S1 is the key decision. E1 gives much higher damage, especially for Elation teams, while S1 makes Yao Guang's Ultimate rotation smoother and more comfortable.

FAQ

How much SPD does Yao Guang need?

Yao Guang should have at least 160 SPD to fully activate the second CRIT Rate tier of Diviner of Distant Reach. If you have her signature Light Cone, aiming closer to 200 SPD is also valuable because her Bonus Ability converts excess SPD into more Elation.

Should Yao Guang use HP%, DEF%, or ATK% Sphere?

HP% or DEF% Sphere is usually best for a safer support build. Elation DMG does not rely on Elemental DMG Boost in the usual way, so survivability is often more practical. ATK% can be used if you want a little more personal damage.

What Trace should I level first for Yao Guang?

Level her Ultimate, Skill, and Elation Skill first, then Talent. Basic ATK can be upgraded later because its main value is SP economy and 30 Energy regeneration.

Is Yao Guang's signature Light Cone worth pulling?

Yes, When She Decided to See is worth pulling if you want smoother gameplay. Its SPD, Energy Regen, and fixed Energy recovery help solve Yao Guang's 180 Energy Ultimate cycle, while also improving team CRIT support.

Is E1 Yao Guang a good stopping point?

Yes. E1 is her best early Eidolon stopping point for spenders. It doubles the fixed Punchline value of her Ultimate's extra Aha turn and lets ally Elation DMG ignore 20% DEF, which is a major boost for Elation teams.
