Zenless Zone Zero 2.8 New Characters: Promeia
Promeia, the cold-blooded executioner of the Krampus Compliance Authority, is an S-Rank Ice Anomaly DPS who excels at triggering Abloom — a burst mechanic that detonates existing attribute anomalies on enemies for massive fixed-multiplier damage (675% Attribute Anomaly DMG per trigger).
Her signature playstyle revolves around applying Ice Anomaly, converting Corrosive Chill into Trial by Cold via her EX Special Attack, then cycling Abloom triggers in an endless loop.
Promeia Best-in-Slot Drive Disc
| 2pc | Ice DMG +10% |
| 4pc | Triggering Abloom grants +48 Anomaly Proficiency. Triggering Freeze grants +16% Anomaly DMG and Disorder DMG. |
Alternative disc sets: Freedom Blues (4pc, for Mono-Ice Disorder teams with Miyabi — trades personal damage for faster Disorder via Anomaly Buildup RES reduction) · 2pc combinations with Woodpecker Electro or Polar Metal are viable until Notes from the Chained is farmed.
W-Engine: Signature (Frostfall Sickle, S-Rank) is the clear best-in-slot — +35% Ice DMG with stacking +15% Anomaly DMG per EX Special Attack (max 2 stacks). F2P alternative: Weeping Gemini (A-Rank), which gives up to +120 Anomaly Proficiency in Disorder team setups.
Promeia Stat priorities
Anomaly Mastery (Slot 6, converts to Anomaly Proficiency via Core Passive) > Anomaly Proficiency > Ice DMG > ATK%. Avoid over-investing in raw ATK — Abloom does not CRIT and does not scale with Anomaly Mastery directly.
Promeia Skill priority
Core Passive > EX Special Attack > Chain Attack / Ultimate > Basic Attack > Dodge > Assist.

Zenless Zone Zero 2.8 New Characters: Starlight - Billy
Starlight - Billy is the game's first S-Rank Physical Rupture DPS — a complete reinvention of the beloved free A-Rank Billy Kid. He swaps pistols for a motorcycle and a revolutionary HP-scaling damage model. His hinted identity was teased in a Version 2.6 Inter-Knot post featuring the "Starlight Knight" silhouette.
Core mechanic — Sheer DMG: All of Billy's Physical damage is converted to Sheer DMG, which completely ignores enemy DEF. Sheer DMG scales directly from his Sheer Force stat (1 Max HP = 0.1 Sheer Force). This means ATK% is useless on him — every stat point should go into HP, CRIT Rate, or CRIT DMG.
Bike Mode: Entered via Special Attack. Billy continuously drains his own HP but gains +30% CRIT DMG, 12% DMG reduction, and higher Anti-Interrupt. Building up the Heat meter to 100 unlocks his signature nuke: Starlight Knight Flying Kick. If HP drops below 1%, he exits Bike Mode automatically. His Core Passive provides a 180% Max HP shield as a safety net (100s cooldown).
Starlight Billy Best-in-Slot Drive Disc: Yunkui Tales
| 2pc | Max HP +10% |
| 4pc | After using EX Special Attack, Chain Attack, or Ultimate, CRIT Rate increases by 4% per stack (max 3 stacks, 15s). At 3 stacks, Physical Sheer DMG +10%. |
2pc pairings: Woodpecker Electro (CRIT Rate) · Branch & Blade Song (Chain Attack synergy) · Bunny in Wonderland (HP +10%, directly buffs Sheer Force).
W-Engine: Signature Starlight Rider Faceplate (S-Rank) is the clear best-in-slot — provides CRIT Rate boost and stacking Physical Sheer DMG on Basic Attacks. Best A-Rank F2P alternative: Summoning Arcanum (stacking DMG% + CRIT Rate at 3 stacks via EX Special Attack).
Starlight Billy Stat priorities
Main stats: Slot 4 — CRIT Rate or CRIT DMG · Slot 5 — HP% or Physical DMG% · Slot 6 — HP% (mandatory). Sub-stats priority: HP% > CRIT Rate = CRIT DMG > Flat HP. Do NOT build ATK% — it provides zero benefit to Sheer DMG.
Starlight Billy Skill priority
Core Passive > Special Attack > Basic Attack > Chain Attack > Assist > Dodge.
Starlight Billy Best teams
Best team: Starlight Billy + Lucia + Qingyi/Cissia
Lucia is the cornerstone — her Darkbreaker state adds up to +900 Sheer Force to Billy based on her Max HP, while her healing zone keeps him alive through Bike Mode's HP drain. Qingyi maintains stun uptime; Cissia provides DEF Ignore for extra damage amplification.

Zenless Zone Zero 2.8 Rerun Characters: Lucia
Lucia's core mechanic revolves around maintaining a Dream state to extend Ether Veil: Wellspring — continuous HP scaling and flat damage bonuses for the team. She also generates off-field Aftershock damage and penetration buffs via Harmonies.
Her rerun in 2.8 Phase 1 is doubly valuable: she fills the support slot in the Ice Anomaly + Stun team (Promeia + Nangong Yu), and she is the cornerstone of Starlight Billy's best team — her Max HP directly increases his Sheer Force by up to +900. If you missed her original run or previous reruns, Phase 1 ends May 27 — this is your window. Note that Lucia's banner (Wandering Night Lantern) runs before Billy's Phase 2 — pull her first if building the Rupture team.
Lucia Best-in-Slot Drive Disc: Swing Jazz
| 2pc | Energy Regen +20% |
| 4pc | Launching a Chain Attack or Ultimate increases all squad members' DMG by 15% for 12s. |
2pc pairings: Bunny in Wonderland (Max HP +10%). Because Lucia's "Darkbreaker" core buff reaches its maximum potential at 24,000 Max HP, HP% bonuses are crucial.
W-Engine: Her signature S-Rank W-Engine "Dreamlit Hearth" is the clear best-in-slot, providing high Max HP and Energy Regen. F2P A-Rank alternatives: Weeping Cradle or Vault.
Lucia Stat priorities
Main stats: Slot 4 — HP% · Slot 5 — HP% · Slot 6 — Energy Regen or HP%. Sub-stats priority: HP% > Flat HP > Energy Regen. Try to stack her Max HP as close to 24,000 as possible to maximize her mechanic buffs.
Lucia Skill priority
Core Passive > EX Special Attack > Assist > Ultimate > Chain Attack > Basic Attack.
Lucia Best teams
Physical Rupture Team: Starlight Billy + Lucia + Qingyi / Cissia
Lucia's "Darkbreaker" state scales off her Max HP to give Billy up to +900 "Sheer Force", and she uses her healing zone to offset Billy's HP drain during his Bike Mode. She is an irreplaceable core support here.

Zenless Zone Zero 2.8 Rerun Characters: Orphie and Magus
Orphie & Magus are a unique off-field sub-DPS and team buffer rolled into one. When sitting in the backup position with 60+ Energy, she automatically consumes 30 Energy to cast EX Special Attack: Crimson Vortex — a laser that deals Fire Aftershock DMG and grants the whole squad the Zeroed In buff: ATK +130 (up to +340 scaling with her Energy Regen), extending whenever any ally triggers an Aftershock. Her Additional Ability also gives Aftershock attacks 25% DEF Ignore.
Orphie & Magus Best-in-Slot Drive Disc: Shadow Harmony
| 2pc | Energy Regen +20% (Swing Jazz or Moonlight Lullaby) |
| 4pc | Shadow Harmony: Boosts Aftershock DMG by 15% and stacks ATK/CRIT buffs. |
W-Engine: Signature Bellicose Blaze is the top choice — CRIT Rate boost + Fire Aftershock attacks stack DEF Ignore (up to 2 stacks). Alternative: Drill Rig - Red Axis (Energy Regen). Heartstring Nocturne is a strong CRIT-stat-stick alternative.
Orphie & Magus Stat priorities
Key stat: Energy Regen is her unique priority — maximizing it increases the Zeroed In ATK buff for the whole squad. Build Energy Regen on W-Engine and 2pc disc first before focusing personal CRIT stats.
Orphie & Magus Skill priority
EX Special Attack > Ultimate > Basic Attack > Assist > Chain Attack. Skip upgrading Dodge entirely — it is almost never used.

ZZZ Version 3.0 Preview: Confirmed Upcoming Characters
⚠️ Important: Version 2.9 has been officially skipped by HoYoverse. The game jumps directly from 2.8 (ends June 16) to Version 3.0 (launches June 17, 2026), kicking off Season 3 and the Roscaelifer arc.
Velina Airgid — S-Rank Wind Anomaly (Phase 1, Confirmed)

Velina Airgid is the head of the External Strategy Department (ESD) in Roscaelifer — the floating sky city that serves as the new explorable region in Season 3. She is confirmed as the first-ever Wind attribute Agent in Zenless Zone Zero history, pioneering an entirely new elemental space as an S-Rank Wind Anomaly DPS.
Wind is the first new element added to ZZZ since launch. It introduces the Windswept/Weathered Anomaly status, the Erosion debuff (increases Wind damage taken), and the Vortex compound reaction — triggering when Wind Anomaly interacts with other Attribute Anomalies. Velina appeared alongside Norma in the 2.7 main story and is expected to headline Phase 1 of Version 3.0. If you play Promeia or any Anomaly team, Velina is the next character to watch.
Norma Hollowell — S-Rank Fire Stun (Phase 2, Confirmed)

Norma Hollowell is the Chief Technician of the ESD, working alongside Velina. Her personal philosophy is "Destruction is the mother of creation" — which explains why every ESD hallway is fitted with fire suppression systems. She is confirmed as an S-Rank Fire Stun Agent, joining the Stun roster alongside Qingyi and Lighter with a Fire attribute angle.
Norma appeared prominently in the 2.7–2.8 story arc and is considered one of the most anticipated characters for Version 3.0. She is expected to launch in Phase 2. Her exact kit details are pending the 3.0 Special Program livestream.
Pyrois — Ether Attack (Phaethon's Combat Form, 3.0)

Pyrois is the Etheric Other combat form of Phaethon — the power hidden within the Proxy siblings since their time at Helios Academy, finally making its appearance. Confirmed as an Ether Attack Agent, Pyrois fights alongside Belle or Wise in a way no Agent has done before. The name references Greek mythology: Pyrois was one of the four horses of Helios that pulled the sun chariot — the same myth Phaethon's name is drawn from.
Pyrois's acquisition method has not been officially confirmed. Community speculation leans heavily toward Pyrois being obtainable for free through story progression rather than via the standard gacha system — similar to how protagonist combat forms are handled in other HoYoverse titles. Do not spend Polychrome on Pyrois until the 3.0 livestream confirms rarity and acquisition method.
Ramiel (Remielle Dan) — Future Character
Ramiel — revealed in Version 2.8 to be Remielle Dan — was the central mystery of the 2.7–2.8 story arc. With her role now resolved in the 2.8 epilogue, community discussion has shifted toward her potential as a playable agent in a future Season 3 update. The Season 3 teaser showed her in a white angelic dress distinct from her Ramiel appearance. No official playable announcement has been made.
Severian Lowell — Future Character
Severian is Seth's older brother and Cissia's direct superior at the New Eridu Public Security HQ. First referenced in the Undercover R&B questline and appearing on-screen in the 2.6 Season 2 Interlude, he carries significant story weight heading into Season 3. The Season 3 teaser confirmed he will appear in Roscaelifer content. Given his faction ties to Public Security and apparent power tier, he is expected to be framed as a Void Hunter-level character in a future update.
⚠️ Disclaimer: Banner order, phase assignments, and kit details for 3.0 characters are based on official drip marketing, the ZTALK Season 3 Special (April 21, 2026), and the "Before the Wind Rises" teaser (April 30, 2026). Final details should be verified through the official 3.0 Special Program livestream (expected early June 2026).
Promeia Or Starlight Billy? Which Character Should You Prioritise?
For most players, each 42-day update cycle typically provides around 8,000–10,000 free Polychromes, which is roughly equal to 50–62 pulls.
If your pull resources are limited, it's best to prioritize based on character strength, team synergy, and long-term value. The comparison below can help you decide which character offers the best value to pull first. Keep in mind that Version 3.0 launches June 17 with three new Agents — plan your Polychrome budget accordingly.
- You already have Nangong Yu or Lucia.
- You love high-brain, high-reward Disorder mechanics.
- You want to future-proof your account for Anomaly meta — especially with Wind Anomaly Velina coming in 3.0.
- You don't mind learning complex combat rotations.
- You need a powerful Physical Rupture hyper-carry.
- You prefer simple, fast, and straightforward combat.
- You missed previous top-tier Attack agents.
- You want an F2P-friendly unit that works with free A-Rank supports.
Final Thoughts
ZZZ Version 2.8 "New: Eridan Sunset" is the grand finale of the 2.X era — and it's live now. Promeia redefines the Ice Anomaly meta with her Abloom-cycling gameplay, Starlight - Billy introduces the game's first Physical Rupture S-Rank built entirely around HP-to-Sheer-DMG conversion, and Lucia's confirmed rerun makes both new units significantly stronger. The confirmed Phase 2 rerun of Orphie & Magus rounds out a patch full of strong options for every roster type.
With Version 3.0 launching June 17 — bringing the first Wind Agent (Velina), Fire Stun specialist (Norma), and Phaethon's combat form (Pyrois) — your Polychrome planning window is tight. Phase 1 ends May 27. Budget accordingly.
