Perplexity API Pricing
Perplexity's API is priced separately from its consumer subscriptions. You don't need a Pro or Max plan to use it, and neither subscription includes API credits. Instead, API usage is billed through prepaid credits based on the model, token usage, and number of requests.
API costs vary by model and usage. Sonar and Sonar Pro combine token charges with per-request fees, while the Search API is priced mainly by request volume, with Fast search offering the lowest listed rate. These charges are separate from Perplexity's regular subscription plans.
For subscription users, however, the listed price is not always what you end up paying. Student pricing, annual billing, partner promotions, and other available offers can all reduce the cost of Perplexity Pro.
How Can You Get Perplexity Pro for Less?
Seven methods still work in September 2026. Annual billing and GamsGo are open to anyone. The rest depend on whether you study or teach, which carrier you use, what hardware you buy, or whether you're buying for a company.
1. Annual Billing: Save About 17% on Pro and Max
Annual billing takes Pro from $240 to $200 a year, which is $40 back and works out to about $16.67 a month. On Max the gap is bigger: $2,000 a year instead of $2,400. You make the switch under Settings > Account > Subscription on the web, and Max's yearly option only appears there, not in the mobile apps.
The catch is the upfront payment. Perplexity refunds only in a few situations, such as a renewal you forgot to cancel, so if you're new to Pro, see how often you open it over a month before paying for a year.
2. Education Pro: 50% Off for Students and Educators
With a school email, you can do better than annual billing. Education Pro is Pro at half price, $10 a month, and it adds unlimited Pro Searches and Learn Mode for flashcards and quizzes. Teachers and faculty qualify, as well as students.
To sign up, open perplexity.ai/students or the Education tab on the upgrade screen and verify with SheerID. It covers schools in the US, Canada, Australia, and more than 180 other countries. If SheerID can't match your school on its own, it asks for a document such as an enrollment letter or a staff ID.

3. Carrier Bundles: Free Months From Your Mobile Provider
Not a student? Check your phone plan next. Three carriers still give Perplexity Pro away as of September 2026:
SoftBank's offer is for customers who haven't used its earlier 1-year Perplexity campaign, and it renews at ¥2,950/month from month 7.
Vivo added prepaid lines (6 months after a R$30+ top-up) and Easy Lite plans (12 months) in October 2025, on top of its existing offer for postpaid, fiber, and TV customers. Bell sends its offer to selected customers through MyBell, email, or text.

4. Logitech Bundle: 6 Free Months With a New Keyboard or Mouse
Hardware makers have run similar deals, and Logitech's is the one still open. Buy an MX Series or Ergo Series device, or an iPad keyboard case, for more than $119 on Logitech.com in the US, and Logitech emails you a link for 6 months of Pro once the order ships.
That's $120 worth of Pro, and existing subscribers can redeem it too. It's only a saving if you were already shopping for the hardware.
5. Perplexity for Startups: 6 Months of Enterprise Pro
Buying for a company opens up two more options, and this one is worth the most. Early-stage startups can apply to Perplexity for Startups for $5,000 in API credits and 6 months of Enterprise Pro. At $40 a seat, those 6 months are worth $240 per person. You can apply with your company email and website.
6. Enterprise Pro Annual Billing: Save $80 per Seat
Teams that don't qualify can still save by paying for Enterprise Pro yearly: $400 per seat instead of $480, or $800 a year for a 10-person team. US federal agencies have a separate GSA deal that prices Enterprise Pro for Government at $0.25 per agency for the first 15 months.
7. GamsGo: Perplexity Pro From $4.09/Month
Not everyone fits one of the official routes. If you're not a student, your carrier isn't a Perplexity partner, and $200 up front feels like a lot for a tool you're still getting used to, a subscription platform like GamsGo is worth a look.

Perplexity also checks where each code came from. In July 2025 it suspended Pro for a group of Galaxy owners whose codes "do not match our records for having obtained the promotion through the intended flow."
Redeem every code on the web, not in the app. If you pay for Pro through the App Store or Google Play, let that subscription run out first. Apple and Google bill it separately, and a partner code won't apply on top of it.
Only one code works per billing cycle, so you can't stack a carrier deal on Education Pro or on another code. Each code is tied to the account that activates it and can't be moved, and sharing one breaks Perplexity's Terms of Service. A code bought or copied from a third-party site can be cancelled later, even after you've started using it.
Every promo needs a card on file and renews at the full price when the free period ends. Set a reminder a few days before that date if you don't plan to keep paying. Free months you earned through the old referral program still count and are added after your current subscription ends.
