Is Grok AI Safe?
A recent Grok Build repository-upload incident has drawn widespread attention.
On July 12, 2026, security researchers at Cereblab reported that Grok Build may have uploaded complete Git repositories and their commit histories to xAI-controlled cloud infrastructure. These histories could even contain secrets that had been deleted from the current code but remained in earlier commits.
xAI subsequently disabled the repository-upload feature. When the researchers tested the same version again, they could no longer reproduce the behavior.
Elon Musk said xAI would delete the previously uploaded data without retaining copies. There is currently no evidence that regular chats in the Grok web or mobile apps were affected, or that the uploaded code was viewed or used for model training.
